Tasman Murchison Trekking
Walk two longest Glaciers in Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand, surrounded by the highest peaks in the Southern Alps. We navigate through crevasses, descend challenging snow slopes, and enjoy the unlimited view from Tasman Sea to Lake Tekapo.
Trekking Itinerary:
Day one Meet at 8am at Lake Tekapo for introductions, trip briefing and gear check. From there we Travel to Mount Cook airport and fly into the upper neve of the Tasman Glacier. From there we walk to Tasman Saddle Hut. After settling in and coffee break & briefing, we commence and repeat basic mountaineering instructions at nearby ice walls.
Day two We get very closed to Elie de Beaumont, the highest peak on the upper Tasman Glacier.. From Lendenfeld Saddle we see the West Coast and Tasman Sea. If conditions are suitable we climb Hochstetter Dome before we reach Kelman Hut.
6 hours.
Day three Murchison Hut is our today’s goal. After Tasman Saddle we see the Murchison Glacier, Garden of Eden, Two Thumb Range and the Arrowsmith Range
In the east.
Day four After an early start we climb Claasen Saddle. The impressive Summit of D’Archiac is right in front of us. Then we follow the Murchison Glacier to get to our pick up location. From Mount Cook airport return to Lake Tekapo.
Fitness requirement: an average level of physical fitness, stamina for max 6 hours hiking is required.
Previous experience: Minimum requirement is the completion of a Beginner
Mountaineering Course or equivalent mountaineering experience.
Maximum number of participants: From two up to participants per guide
Bad weather itinerary: In the event of bad weather (or any other unforseen events) that requires a change of course location, additional costs (eg. transport) may be incurred. Any alteration to the schedule and/or costs will be discussed with participants before being finalised.
Program Details: Our Tasman Murchison Trekking is run on demand from October to April.

Not Included In Fee:
- Accommodation/flights before & after course
- Personal clothing/equipment (we can give you a list of recommended items to bring)
- Mountaineering boots (bring your own or we will assist you to buy a pair wholesale through our company at the start of the course)
- Helicopter access
Accommodation: During the trekking we will be staying at the Tasman Saddle,Murchison or Kelman hut. Your fee covers overnight stay in bunk style dormitory. Please contact us for further information or to make a booking.
